Parkview’s focus on research conducted here is patient-centered, focusing on clinical and translational research — from “bench-to-bedside.” While centers such as this are normally affiliated with academic medical centers, the Mirro Center is among few research centers within the United States that are affiliated with a not-for-profit regional hospital. The core purpose of the Mirro Center is to encourage collaboration and synergy among clinicians, non-clinicians and patients to create an environment that nurtures creativity, leverages innovation, and builds inter-professional clinical teams — all while keeping patient needs at the center of all activity.
In addition to this clinical research, our informatics research team works to optimize the use of health technology tools, leading to improved patient experience and health outcomes. Parkview is uniquely situated to participate in research efforts aimed at precision medicine. Certified genetic counselors are on staff and Parkview has collaborative relationships with local higher education institutions which include:
Within this fellowship program, students are in residence nine weeks learning about research and interacting with Parkview physicians on ongoing research studies. In addition, they are able to shadow our physician partners and learn more about various medical specialties. Students also learn to create posters for presentations from their findings and exhibit them at an end of summer banquet.
Student Education and Research Fellowship (SERF) Program
The Indiana University School of Medicine-FW SERF program is a structured to provide graduate and medical students with research skills and practical experience in conducting research independently. Research methods and data analysis strategies are emphasized. Students gain valuable experience assessing the validity of current clinical practice standards as well as determining the significance of their own findings. Parkview Research Center / Parkview Health collaborates/partners with IUSM-FW to provide a research setting and research project/studies utilized in the SERF program.
